Seniors - DBacks

Monday, August 16 2010

Depth Valley

  • Paul Frederique begins his third year in the program and is being counted on, among all other players, to have a big season at corner back. He returned an interception for a TD last season and looks quite capable sealing the edge against the run.
  • Trevor Reid begins his second season at DB and is competing for a starting position.  He’s had great attendance and has shown hustle and track speed, while making tackles and covering receivers.
  • Darius Carwise, The South Central Sensation, has play making ability at several positions, including DB, LB and DE.  His speed will be extra boost on defense. He’s shown big-time play-making ability during camp.
  • Keith-beef, “D” McGhee has been making some big plays in training camp and mini-camp.  He’s competing at corner and showing that he has no intention of backing down.
  • Carlos Tension has been a playmaker and Practice Player of the Week for the first week of training camp.  He’s been batting down passes left and right, along with covering receivers in the deep zone.
  • Dui Buy just returned from a couple of vacations and will be counted upon to compete at the corner position. He’s a fourth year Patriot with experience playing DB.
  • Jordan Booker is a new player who’s just learning the game and how to block and tackle.
  • Jonathan Boone had an all-star season last year at corner, intercepting a few passes, returning a couple for touchdowns, including the game winner against the CFAA Chargers.  He’s shown the ability to be a shut-down corner that can seal the edge against the run.
  • Cameron Beal appears primed for another all-star type season. He’s capable of playing a few positions in the secondary, in addition to OLB and DE.  His skills will be counted upon to shutdown receivers and knockdown runners.
  • Nick Gordon has been the reliable Free Safety and last line of defense between us and the end zone every year.  This year he came into camp built like a LB with team leading track speed.  He has the capability and strength to play every speed position on the entire defense.
  • Khalil Troche brings unique speed and hitting ability for a player his size. He tackles like a LB with the speed of a DB

Seniors - Linebackers

Wednesday, August 11 2010

The group is headed by two returning stars, Sa’eed Shakur and Tod Sizemore.  The Blitz Brothers will be bringing the heat up the middle again.  They’ll be counted on for veteran leadership in the huddle and while making big plays across the field. Sa’eed has made several big plays, including interceptions and pass deflections during camp, while showing across the field range and speed. This training camp, he has been unequivocally the most dominant player on both sides of the ball.

Joining the LB corp. are Darius Carwise and Nick Gordon.  Both players have been quick on the blitz all training camp and making tackles from sideline to sideline.Carlos Albizu represents the X-Factor on defense as he appears to be able to play LB and DE, with the speed that allows him to be “getting to the hitting”.

Seniors - Defensive Line

Tuesday, June 22 2010

The defense returns its leading hit-man and former, two-time, defensive MVP, David “Tenacious” Tate Jr.  In what will be his 3rd season ever playing football, “Tenacious” Tate is he’s expected to have another super season at Defensive Tackle. He’s been looking good and fast, running down runners in team drills. Tate will be teamed on the line with Nose Guard Brenden Sombelon; who, through perseverance and persistence, became a starter for the first time last season.  He’ll put opposing runners in the “Sombeloni” Sandwich.

Andrew Salamag is a returning second year player that posses tremendous speed and quickness off the ball.  Defensive End Johnny “Reliable” Rivera is looking to be “Johnny-on-the-Spot” this season with improved tackling and pass rushing ability. He’s brings a consistently positive attitude to practice, accompanied with hustle and determination.

Another player making a comeback is Kenny Petty.  Better known as “Petty-Bear”, Kenny looked tall and fast at mini-camp.  Part of our Nose Guard / Line-Backer rotation will include Tod Sizemore, Salamaj and Stephen Sarria.  “Tod-Zilla” put the “Charley-Hustle” back in his game this off-season and is having his all-time, best mini-camp ever as a Patriot.  He’s been running and hustling.  That’s his game.  It’s predicated on, making it muddy and bloody and bringing the pressure up the middle.

Newcomers and football converts come from basketball and soccer.  Stephen “Soccer” Sarria is giving American football a shot.  His soccer hustle and speed are quite noticeable and expected.  The pleasant and unexpected surprise has been his pass catching ability.  With those hands, he’s been playing the wrong game of football all along.

Coming off the basketball court are Defensive Ends James “Big Games” Davis and Johnathan “Dunk-a-than” Jean-Laurent. James made a couple of athletic interceptions during mini-camp 2 weeks ago.  Johnathan has been a 14-year dunking machine on the basketball court.  We need him to dunk opposing quarterbacks and running backs and catch alley-oops in the end-zone.

Overall, the Lightning D-Line has speed and quickness getting to ball.  The Thunder D-Line will include the O-Linemen playing in the interior at nose guard and defensive tackle.  Both sides of have shown strength, speed and plenty of hustle.

Next week:  Line-backers and D-Backs

Seniors - Offensive Line

Thursday, June 10 2010

Returning seniors from last season include AJ Mamea, Kevin Castillo, Paul Madrio and Chandler Mentor.  These players gained valuable experience together last year blocking for an offensive unit that finished 2nd in Mid-Florida in scoring with 300 points, while surrendering only 2 sacks the entire season.  Castillo, Madrio and Chandler have been working hard as frequent mini-camp participants.  AJ looked in good shape last Friday at Orientation and looking to get on the field soon.

Mario Bonetti and Jacob Wiley are reunited with some of their former Pee Wee team-mates from two seasons ago. They’re looking bulked up and ready to blend at a high performance level this season.  Adrian Hoffman and Josiah Johnson, two other teammates from that Pee Wee team are attempting a notable comeback. Together, these four players were vital in leading the way in the trenches of the Pee Wee Team’s 20-4 run, 2 seasons ago. They’ll be counted upon, as well as all others, to lead the ground attack this season. We’ll also see them out there on defense.

Other Juniors moving up to the senior team include John Neubauer, Gary Seefried, Eli Burgett and Jamie Devoss.  Looking forward to working with them, as they’ll continue to refine their pass and run blocking techniques and tackling abilities.  They look courageous, tough and determined.

A new player is Gustavo Villaroelle from the Kissimmee Kowboys. He’s been very impressive with his technique, fundamentals, low-center of gravity, movement and power.  Edward Cintron, Carlos Lebron and Alex Cintron have been impressive with their mini-camp attendance and hustle.

Overall, the Senior Patriots have a strong group of linemen that appear competitive, have been in attendance for mini-camp and hustling in their drills run by Coaches Seefried and Neubauer. This group will only get better with time and as they become more familiar with our drive and pass blocking techniques, fundamentals and schemes.

Mini-Camp 2010

Monday, June 07 2010

We’ve enjoyed 3 very good mini-camps the last 3 years, but Mini-Camp 2010 has been the absolute best of the best.  Attendance has been at least 30 players every Saturday, with a high of 35 players attending practice 2 weeks ago. The players have been hustling on both sides of the ball.  The defense is working to be quicker getting to the ball. The offensive linemen have been running agility and conditioning drills, while learning run and pass blocking techniques.  We’ve seen some great passes thrown and caught.  Coaches are feeling the excitement; especially, after seeing everybody all together at Orientation last Friday and at mini-camp on Saturday.
